BERLIN (1922) NOT-UND-SCHMACH TALER

Issued by the Meissen Porcelain factory for Berlin in 1922, although no date appears on either side.  This popular, satirical issue portrays the French as a huge gorilla  holding a naked woman captive.  The allusions to the French include the "RF" (Republique Francaise) above the gorilla's head, and the two cock's heads atop staffs behind the gorilla.  These are sometimes found in boxed sets along with a satirical medal (see below).  This type is closely associated with Karl Goetz's "Black Shame" medal.
