Some of the most interesting coins ever made are the porcelain coins created in Germany from 1921 to date. In the earliest years, Porcelain coins were substitutes for the real silver and gold money that disappeared from circulation after World War I.  Though they bore actual denominations (i.e. 50 Pfennig, 1 Mark, etc.), they seldom circulated and most were made for sale to collectors.  In later years, German porcelain coins did not bear a denomination, so they are considered medals or tokens.

The porcelain coins below are listed by Scheuch numbers (Karl Scheuch wrote the definitive reference book on these pieces). If you’re looking for a particular city, use your browser’s “Find” tool and be aware that cities can appear in multiple locations on this page.
